This Day in History - March 14th Starring - Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. Unexceptional in elementary school, he became exceptional. His general theory of relativity altered man's view of the universe and made possible the quantum theory and ultimately the atomic bomb. After leaving Hitler's anti-semitic Germany, Einstein claimed in a note to Franklin Roosevelt that such a bomb was possible. Later he deplored the bomb's use on Hiroshima. In 1953, he gracefully declined the presidency of Israel. His relativity theory denied the existence of absolute time and space, and his almost mystical unified field theory maintained that gravity, magnetism and electricity derived from the same force.
阿尔伯特·爱因斯坦生于1879年3月14日德国乌尔姆。小学的他十分普通，但谁会料想他会变得如此非同寻常。他的广义相对论改变了人们对宇宙的看法，并使量子理论应用到原子弹最终成为现实。在离开希特勒掌控下的“反犹太”德国后，爱因斯坦上书罗斯福可以研制原子弹。之后，他开始谴责对广岛原子弹的使用。1953年，他委婉的谢绝出任以色列总统。他的相对论否定了绝对时间和空间的存在，并且他那近乎神秘的统一场理论认为重力、磁力和电力源于同一种力。（注：长期以来，世界物理学界希望有一天能建立一个可解释所有自然界现象的“大统一场理论”。这一设想最早是由爱因斯坦提出的。当时，不少科学家认为这个设想纯属异想天开，但也有许多科学家多年来一直致力于这项理论的研究。）
