Despite the blizzard, some people in D.C. did venture outside for a chance to play. Snowballs were flying and normally bustling DuPont Circle, a major Washington thoroughfare. Hundreds of people gathered for a snowball fight with words spreading through Facebook and Twitter.
An Iraqi defense official says Shiite militants have released a tape of a kidnapped Iraqi-American contractor,who was abducted from central Baghdad last month.
The Washington zoo's former panda Tai Shan spent a peaceful night in his new home in China. His keeper speaks English, but one of his first tasks will be to teach Tai Shan a few mandarin phrases.
