On January 17, 1966 - the Spanish coastal village of Palomares gets a scare from the heavens when two giant U.S. Air Force jets collide and drop a hydrogen bomb... somewhere!
Exactly where is a question to be answered by a thousand soldiers and experts dispatched to analyze the wreckage about Palomares. The mid-air collision between a B52 bomber and a KC135 refueling plane killed 8 crew and dislodged the missing H-bomb.
Villagers are assured that radiation counts are normal, but the local tomato crop suffers a sharp price drop and the soldiers are ordered to launder their duds daily. Two months later the bomb is found in nearby waters, it is intact.
