美宇航员为哈勃望远镜实行太空“手术”
亚特兰大号航天飞机于１１日发射升空，机上的７名宇航员将对哈勃望远镜进行最后一次维护。宇航员们此行将总共实施５次太空行走，为望远镜更换电池、陀螺仪等设备。维护工作完成后，哈勃望远镜的服役期有望延长至２０１４年。
The American space shuttle Atlanta has linked top with the orbit in Hubble's space telescope. One of the astronauts used the shuttle's robot arm to capture the giant telescope. The Atlanta's crew will spend the next five days carrying out the first repairs for Hubble for 7 years. Sarah R reports.

The crew of the Atlanta's captured the Hubble telescope with a robotic arm, 560 kilometres above Australia. It's the first successful stage of a mission to repair and upgrade Hubble and allow it to continue sending its stunning images back to scientists on earth. But it's a risky operation and an unusually high orbit that is filled with space junk. The international space station is beyond reach as a refuge. So a second shuttle has been put on standby for any emergency.
