More than a hundred people are reported to have died in Kenya after fuel which has spilled from a crashed tanker truck caught fire. Officials in the central Kenya town of Molo said those who died had crowded around the truck to siphon off the fuel. The provincial commissioner of the Rift Valley Hassan Noor said the cause of the fire was not yet clear.
"We don't exactly know how the fire started because the allegation is that somebody got annoyed with the way they were being chased away from the place by security personnel and lit the fire, others are saying the fire started accidentally. But, however, in the process with an explosion, there was fire everywhere and we have bodies littered all over this place."
Fireworks lit inside a bar in south-east China are blamed for starting a fire that killed 15 people and injured about twenty more. The Chinese media say a group celebrating a birthday in the city of Changle set off fireworks at their table. The ceiling caught fire and the entire bar was soon engulfed in flames.
