    参考文本:

President Bush has designated about half a million square kilometres around US positions in the central Pacific Ocean as marine national monuments. The designation protects the areas from drilling for oil, other natural resources. The zones extend down into the world's deepest chasm, the Mariana Trench, and cover a vast arc of underwater volcanoes that include pools of molten sulphur unique on earth. Here's Richard Black.

President Bush's chief environmental advisor said the US was "setting the mark for the world with respect to effective marine management". Environmental groups aren't so sure. While there's applause for the fishing ban, there's also concern that without action to curb carbon emissions, any attempt to protect corals will ultimately be doomed. Higher emissions mean seawater leads warmer and slightly more acidic, both of which are damaging to coral.

    Richard Black.

A team of astronomers say they have discovered that our galaxy, the Milky Way, is 50% larger and spinning much faster than previously thought. The Milky Way is said to be spinning at over 900,000 kilometres per hour, while the earth is some 28,000 light years from the centre of the galaxy.
