在上面的报道中，congratulatory message 就是“贺电，贺信”的意思，是一种用书面的形式表示祝贺的礼仪文书。Congratulatory 在这里做形容词，意思是 expressive of sympathetic pleasure or joy on account of someone's success or good fortune（庆祝的，祝贺的）。congratulatory speech 就是指“祝词”。
另外，有人离世的时候发的“唁电”叫做 message of condolence，神秘的“密码电报”是 code message。Message 这个词除了我们常见的“消息，口信”的意思外，还可以表示“启示，寓意”。如：The play has a serious message.（这部戏有着重要的寓意。）
