Most Americans probably don't believe that actions like Grandpa's "fishman's magic" will affect their lives. Grandpa tells Robbie that to catch a fish, he should say,"fish, fish, send me a fish."This is a superstition, a belief that something brings good or bad luck--without a scientific reason to think so. But there are some traditional signs of good luck or bad luck in the U.S., and Americans do play attention to them sometimes.
