More than fifty years ago, at the New York World's Fair, the forecast for American life was something like this: "In the future, technology will bring a higher standard of living. Labor-saving machines will give Americans more free time."

But this forecast was only partly true. Modern machines, like Robbie's home computer, make work simpler, but life is also complicated. But most Americans are able to enjoy some leisure time. Because they are so busy, many Americans need to plan their leisure time carefully.
