Harry and Susan went on a blind date. They didn't know each other before. Blind dates are common in the United States. A family member or friend may know a man and a woman who have a lot in common—who share the same interests or background. So the friend or family member will arrange a blind date for the man and woman to meet.

Some people enjoy blind dates very much. They like meeting and finding out about someone new. Other people get very nervous at the idea of meeting and spending time with someone they don't know.

Single people can also meet each other through clubs and organizations, such as church or political group, or through dating services.
