Iraqi holdouts (顽固分子) launched two ambushes of British forces Tuesday in southern Iraq. Six British police auxiliary trainers were killed and 8 military personnel wounded. British Defense Secretary Geoffrey Hoon told Parliament Britain will stay the course in Iraq. "Coalition forces have worked hard to secure Iraq in the aftermath of decisive combat operations. They will not be deflected from their efforts by the enemies of peace."At the Pentagon, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld expressed condolences. "Their deaths are a sober reminder that while major combat in Iraq and Afghanistan is over, our country and coalition forces remain engaged in a difficult and dangerous war, the global war on terror. And that war will not be over any time soon."
