我们来看看这两种说法有什么不同。

上图：When Richard got home, the dog was lying on the sofa.

lay本身有放置的意思，但是是及物动词，比如“Can you lay the flowers carefully on the table.”如果说的是像鸡鸭等的家禽，可以不及物，表示下蛋的意思。所以，如果说狗狗laying on the sofa，就是说狗狗在沙发上下蛋啦。正确的说法其实是lying，表示躺着或者趴着的意思。
