International SOS (2/2)

Providing health care all over the world

Global service

In recent years ISOS has expanded globally with operations in such far-flung locations as Siberia, Kazakhstan and South Africa. Still, the majority of the company‘s work remains throughout Asia.

" Our largest growth region today is in mainland China," says Daniel. "We've made a very significant investment in supporting both multinational companies going into China to do business and, increasingly, in Chinese companies doing business around the world."

Services offered

In operation internationally are 26 clinics designed to provide what ISOS calls "primary and diagnostic care and emergency services 24/7." The company owns and operates multi-lingual Alarm Centers. On staff are at least one or two expatriate doctors, a national physician, plus operations and logistics personnel. Open around the clock , an AlarmCenter is equipped to respond quickly and efficiently to the needs of company clients.

Calls may be of an emergency nature, but they may also be something as simple as a client's need for refills of medications that were prescribed in another country, a remedy for a painful toothache, or sudden immunizations before a rush assignment to yet another country.

    Set to go

Through all of its many Asian locations, ISOS assisted some 780,000 clients in 2006. Of those, about 14,000 involved evacuations. That could simply involve transferring an ill or injured client to a hospital by ambulance, or it could be far more complex in nature.

While ISOS doesn't own or operate its own aircraft, it has a finely tuned system that boats the use of 12 fixed-wing aircraft configured expressly for use as air ambulances and strategically positioned in five locations around the world. In addition, ISOS has a database that gives it access to large passenger aircraft that can be chartered for large-scale mass evacuations. According to Daniel, "We go where our clients take us."
