Paul McCartney 是最成功的摇滚乐作者，歌手，乐队Beatles的一员。他的歌曲销量成千上万；65年为Beatles所作的《Yesterday 》在美国电台播放达六百万次。1990年McCartney在Rio de Janeiro 举行的独唱音乐会有184,000观众到场。

James Paul McCartney于1942年6月18日生于英格兰的Liverpool，受父亲影响，从小对喜爱音乐，14岁开始弹吉他，57年与John Lennon相识加入乐队Quarrymen，后与John一起成为乐队的写作。几年后，乐队成为Beatles 。1962年Beatles与EMI签约，发行了一系列金曲，并于64年将影响扩展到美国。68开始，乐队对音乐风格发展方向逐渐出现分歧。69年Phil Spector被邀请参与制作《Let It Be》，他的一些行为使McCartney很恼火。其后，McCartney开始制作独唱专辑《McCartney》，于1970年四月发行。专辑由他和妻子Linda合作，到达榜首。1970年4月10日，McCartney公开宣称Beatles解体。他们后又发行了单曲《Another Day》和专辑《Ram》。

后来，McCartney组建了乐队Wings，任贝斯手和主唱，Linda为键盘和伴唱，前Moody Blues成员Denny Laine为吉他手，Denny Seiwell为鼓手，71年11月发行专辑《Wild Life》。吸收吉他手Henry McCulloch后，Wings于72年开始在英国巡回演出，并发行了三只单曲，其中《Like Wild Life》在美国达到榜首。73年发行《Run》，在美国售出三百万张，又达榜首。乐队更换了吉他和鼓手后，于75年发行《Venus and Mars》，76年发行《At the Speed of Sound》。78年发行的《London Town》达到白金销量，包括英国榜首曲《Mull of Kintyre》。《Egg》于79发行。
